How much warm-up is enough?

17 ноября 2004 г. 5:05

I am about to face my first championship and not knowing much of what to do for preparation. In fact, it might sound weird but actually I have all along been trained mainly by my own partner because we don't have an instructor (I'm in Vietnam where dancesport is only on its first step of being accepted). First question: how should I get warmed up before hitting the floor? and how much is enough?
Any help is sincerely appreciated.
Thanks alot!

I'm just talking from my experience and I think its best to just move around and jump and things like that, then stretch a bit, dance an connect with your partner, then stretch again and the I'm usually ready to go on the floor. But this is just the way I do it, doesn't have to work for you.Smile [:)]

How much warm-up is enough?

Thanks for the hint! I've lately learned that before a show, for example, too much and too serious warm-up would just get me exhausted and stressed before hitting the floor too.
Another question:
What should I bring with me to a competition? Chances are, my costume, makeup, hair, or anything else might turn against me at the very last minute. Or if the floor surface might be too sticky or slippy out of my expectation. The morning before competition, we will have time for rehearsal, but I'm still worried and don't want to be surprised in the last minute. What cam help me then?

I personally warm-up long before I go on the floor but I don't over work myself. Just stay calm and focused. don't get too tence. being scared will make you loose your concentration. I doubt that by me saying that all your worries will be gone but worrying too much will just make things worse. Just don't panic if things change and you should do good. Good luck.

You obviously have to take all your dancing stuff (costume, make-up, hair and that), it's also good to have needle and thread if anything goes wrong with your costume. Sole brush is best for sticky or slippery floor, some kinds of oil or water will help too if its slippery. Tissue is good to have if you sweat a lot, just be ware not to wipe off your make-up.

And don't worrie, you always dance better if you stay focused!Wink [;)]

I prepared my shoes with oil and brushed it one day before the competition.
After few rounds danced in the compeititon, the shoe started become slippery.
I will tap some water, but there's a problem here. A dance is about 2 minutes,
if u put water, it won't last u long for 2 mins, about 1min or less than a min the
water will go off and the shoe will go back to slippery.. how do you guys solve this
problem?
