el cordobes:
Obviously people travelling from abroad have greater travel expenses but the cost of the Festival remains the same for everyone. Not to mention and remind everyone the UK and London in particular is one of the most expensive place to live and you need to have a lot of cash if you want to dance serioulys AND live in the UK in 2007 !!!

El Cordobes nice to see you back posting again. Granted Blackpool is becoming expensive for most couples but in my experience cost of living in any country reflects wages in that country.
Here in the Czech Republic each partner will probably be earning less than 500 British Pounds per month BEFORE Tax. from their normal employment. Some teach as they are allowed to by IDSF to increase this. Then of course they must pay for their own lessons.
Thats right LESS than 500 Pounds per month. So imagine how expensive Blackpool is for them and especially when as you say the cost of the festival is the same for everyone. By the time they have paid all the festival expenses, travel, accommodation and food plus costumes costs.......................
2 months wages for each could have disappeared.!!
If they want lessons with an English coach they pay the same as Englsh dancers - thats O.K. but you will understand that makes every lesson VERY expensive.
